Creating a roadmap to find and recognize data for use in DSSs

News update from Work package 2

Data for use in decision support systems (DSSs) need to be easily found in the portal. A first version of APIs providing data on model metadata and weather data are ready for testing in the portal.

In the IPM Decisions portal multiple sources of data needs to be structured and sorted in catalogues so the users can easily find and configure models. A system to find and recognize data for use in DSSs is developed by use of microservices to connect different catalogues of data. These microservices contain two main APIs.

A DSS API contains web services providing a sample catalogue of DSS models and information about data exchange standards. This to ensure communication internally and between the platform and the DSSs, while a weather data API will aid users in finding relevant weather data for use in the DSSs.

The usefulness of a risk warning based on any DSS will depend on the availability and quality of input data. In Work package 2 we will facilitate access to data needed as input to a wide range of models used in DSSs. This includes weather data, field observations and farm management data. Available datasets need to meet the input requirements of various models, must be locally relevant, quality controlled and easy to find for the user.  This is addressed in three main tasks, focusing on weather data, model categorization and input data, and standards and data formats, respectively.

Data obtained and identified in WP2 will be delivered to the platform through a weather data repository and management API (Weather API) and an API for interaction with repository of model metadata (DSS API).

The process of identifying data and making it available for the platform is divided into three stages.

  • An ALPHA version where data examples and preliminary features will be implemented.
  • A BETA version where data will be expanded, and features completed for use
  • A production version where potential bugs are removed.

At this stage of the project, we have finalized the APLHA versions.
